Nastawgan Trails are a series of historic hiking trails and canoe routes situated on many of the lakes and rivers in northeastern Ontario, Canada including Lake Temiskaming and the Ottawa River.

"Nastawgan" is from the language of the Ojibwa First Nation people. It means, "traditional travel routes." The First Nation people and, later, the European trappers and pioneers were first to paddle the chain of lakes and rivers in the region for travel.

Time passed and soon developed villages started to emerge along the banks of the rivers and on the shores of the lakes. Development continued through the years.

It was not long till steam boats arrived transporting people and goods from shore to shore on Lake Temiskaming. Today... the region is a very popular adventure destination and a home to small towns and villages.

The Nastawgan Trails consists of many large parcels of land and interconnected waterways maintained for the enjoyment of non motorized adventures. The wilderness areas are explored via a collection of hiking trails and a vast network of canoe routes measuring over 2400+ kilometres.

The trails and canoe routes explore rivers, wetlands, mountains, lakes, parks, islands and protected wilderness areas. Some adventures lead to historic sites, protected old growth forests, waterfalls, river rapids, abandoned mines, fire towers, ruins, river crossings, rock quarries and wilderness campsites.

The hiking trails explore such wilderness conservation areas as the White Bear Forest, Cliff Lake, South Temiskaming Shoreline, Matabitchuan River and the Obabika Conservation Reserves - as well as - the WJB Greenwood Provincial Park.

Many of the hiking trails follow along the shores of Lake Temiskaming and its connecting rivers. A featured trail in the system is the 100+ kilometre long Ottawa-Temiskaming Highland Trail.

Other popular hiking trail destinations of the Nastawgan Trails include : Twin Lakes Trails, Devil's Rock, Hermit Lake, Triangle Hill, Anima-Nipissing Fire Tower and the White Bear Forest. There is also a Geocache course within the Nastawgan Trails system.
