Merritt BC Cutting Horse Show at the Nicola Valley Rodeo grounds May 12 - 14, 2023. Dating back to the 1800's, ranchers used the most skilled horses to herd their cow's. A prized cutting horse is one that shows interest in cow's and has the ability to quickly react with speed and gauge a cow's movement. In the past cattle ranchers would have their livestock grazing on the open land, mingling with other ranch owned animals. When it came to round-up time, cowhands used cutting horses to separate, control, and herd the cow's home.

Historically ranching is rooted in the Nicola Valley BC. No surprise that the Nicola Valley Rodeo association is bringing this very popular sport to Merritt BC. Come out and watch with amazement the horse's ability, skills, athleticism when handling cattle.
